Since its release in 2018, the Marc Jacobs camera bag — actually called the Marc Jacobs Snapshot Bag — has been both a runway hit and a runaway hit.
Thanks to its wide range of colors and designs, the Marc Jacobs camera bag has not only found its way over the shoulders of countless celebrities, but also appearances on shows such as Emily in Paris on Netflix as well as on the arms of numerous content creators and influencers.

Still incredibly popular four years later, the problem for lovers of designer bags is a familiar one: fakes are everywhere. From Aliexpress to eBay, the fakes are popping up everywhere – and some of them are very difficult to distinguish from reality.
So here are five ways you can tell if your Marc Jacobs camera bag is real or fake!
5 ways to spot a fake Marc Jacobs camera bag
1) Embossed logo on top
There should be an embossed version of the logo at the top of the bag that says “Marc Jacobs” or “The Marc Jacobs.” Some people mistakenly think the latter means the bag is fake, but that’s not true (in and of itself); The Marc Jacobs is a simple subset of the brand that launched in 2019.
So you’re looking for either “Marc Jacobs” or “The Marc Jacobs” on the top. However, if your bag doesn’t have either, it’s not authentic.
2) dust bag
The bag should come with a large, sturdy Marc Jacobs drawstring dust bag. Unfortunately, if your dust bag is a soft, foldable variant without a drawstring, it is a fake.
3) Engraved branding on zippers and clips
Look closely at the metal parts of the bag – the clips, zips, zips and strap adjusters. They should all be engraved with Marc Jacobs – and the color should be consistent (especially noticeable with gold). Also, the zippers should all be YKK.
4) Divider, leather patch inside
Beauty is not only superficial! Marc Jacobs products are just as well made on the inside as they are on the outside, so check out the inside of the bag. There should be a divider in the center dividing the bag into two separate zippered compartments. There should also be an inner pocket with an MJ embossed leather label on it.
5) Don’t forget the strap
The strap is often the quickest way to spot a fake bag, and that’s especially true for the Marc Jacobs camera bag. First of all, it should be a thick, stiff, sturdy material; if it’s soft, smooth, and limp, be suspicious. The colors should match the main color of the material and stitching of the bag itself, and the metallic adjustment loops should be the same color as the zippers and clips. Finally, make sure the leather notch above the strap clip has a wide, “pinched hexagon.” If it’s a simple rectangle, watch out!
