The best design restaurants of 2022 according to AIA LA

A festive awards ceremony in Los Angeles marked the conclusion of the 17th edition of the awards, which the AIA-LAthe local group of American Institute of Architects, reserved for the best bar and restaurant designs from around the world over the past four years. Large or small, indoors or outdoors, formal or informal, built on a modest or large budget, bars and restaurants are as the architect noted Carlo Caccavale, Executive Director of AIA|LA, the main meeting points for our common and collective experiences. They are places where form and function combine perfectly and play an important role in our daily lives. They are indeed fundamental social aggregators for our communities and their role was highlighted in all its importance and value when it was not possible to visit them during the months of lockdown following the Covid-19 pandemic.
The awards of AIA-LA are only intended for bars and restaurants that have been completed within the last four years (completion no earlier than January 1, 2018). Chef and cookbook author Jennifer Hill Booker and Architect Anthony Poon by POON DESIGN, were part of the jury responsible for selecting and awarding the Honor, Merit and Mention Titles for the three award categories. From the projects selected by the jury, the public could choose their favorites and award special prizes to the most popular bar and the most popular restaurant.
For the coffee shop category, only the merit was awarded to the Dripp coffee bar project by Abramson Architects in Costa Mesa, California, and the Audience Award to the Rykn cafe designed in Los Angeles by M. Royce Architecture. For the Best outdoor restaurant/cafe category, the title “to honor” went to Bulli‘s La Bottega Loui – Weho in West Hollywood – CA. In which restaurant category that Masaryčka Restaurant Designed by Archiart in Prague, Czech Republic, and the Kodo restaurant in Los Angeles, designed by M. Royce Architecture and also audience award winners, were tied for that to honor Category. Also awarded in this category were the titles ‘merit‘, to the Yunomi hand roller Restaurant in Los Angeles designed by design operaand ‘Citation‘, to the Prime Restaurant in Chandler, Arizona designed by Preen Inc.
