Sunstone Community Fund Announces Million Dollar Pledge for Early-Stage Entrepreneurship

IRVINE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Sunstone Community Fund today announced its commitment of $1 million over the next five years to support early-stage entrepreneurship and economic development. The fund, to which donors can also contribute, will allow Sunstone to grow and build on its charitable giving to universities and organizations that provide training and support to underrepresented founders and advance the economic development.

The Sunstone Community Fund is a Donor Advised Fund established in 2022 through a contribution from Sunstone’s founding partner John Shen. Since then, the Sunstone Community Fund has awarded grants and scholarships totaling $270,000 to universities and nonprofit organizations that support early-stage entrepreneurship by implementing training programs, coordinating events and activity that supports and promotes entrepreneurship, and building the capacity of public agencies to build vibrant and inclusive startup ecosystems.

Notable grants awarded by the Sunstone Community Fund in 2022 include the CSU Community Builder Grant, the Long Beach Accelerator Center of Excellence Grant, and the TiE SoCal Entrepreneurship Grant. These grants have served to grow university startup incubator programs, build tech accelerators in partnership with local governments, and support diverse founders.
