Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organization (INSO) is an international non-governmental organization that supports humanitarian workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in unsafe contexts. INSO offers a range of free services to registered NGOs, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, security-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientation and training.

INSO supports more than 1000 NGOs daily, operating in 16 of the most insecure countries in the world.

INSO South Sudan

Established in 2018, INSO South Sudan addresses the insecure operating environment faced by all NGOs in the country. The platform currently supports 246 NGOs, including a large number of local partners, in improving safety preparedness and providing support through reports, alerts, training and more. We cover all ten states and three administrative areas in South Sudan with a country office in Juba and field offices in Yambio, Wau, Rumbek, Bentiu, Malakal and Bor. We are now hiring our Security Advisor – Mobile. This position is based in Juba and reports to the Deputy Director.

Job overview:

As a Safety Advisor-Mobile, you will work in a tight-knit team providing safety analysis and advice that is not only among the best of its kind, but is vital to the NGO community’s efforts to provide aid and support to the thousands of people who need it. You are outgoing and resilient, with the ability to analyze complex security issues and contexts and provide informed practical security advice.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain an active information network that includes NGOs, the UN, Armed Forces, etc. to obtain credible and relevant security information.
  • Providing timely and credible security intelligence and contextual analysis of the local security situation to NGOs.
  • Facilitate and lead regional NGO community safety roundtables.
  • Supporting non-governmental organizations to develop their own security management capacities and assisting with crisis evacuation planning.
  • Lead a small office team including overseeing national staff and overseeing local logistics and administration.
  • Effectively represent, promote and protect INSO’s mandate of independence, impartiality and neutrality.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Masters level education or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated writing, editing and analytical skills.
  • Experience in unsafe/conflict-affected environments.
  • Personal and professional resilience in a fast-paced, high-performing, and quality-focused program.
  • Experience in humanitarian aid and/or risk management and/or humanitarian access.
  • Independent drive, motivation and excellence as well as the ability to operate and sustainably lead people and teams under strict systems and deadlines.
  • Well developed personal, organizational and team management skills and standards in a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian security practices and principles.

Preferred Properties:

  • Recent experience in South Sudan – ideally in an NGO security role or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable understanding of security dynamics in South Sudan.
  • Experience with NGO security and/or project management.
  • Existing information networks.
  • Local language skills.

Terms & Conditions Conditions:

12 month contract, €4550 monthly salary, 4 calendar days annual vacation per month and 7 calendar days R&R every two months, €1250 per R&R cycle, accommodation, worldwide health insurance (except US) and $200,000 AD&D coverage.
