Richard Gere is reportedly on course for a win with his controversial plan to erect a mobile phone tower at his luxury inn.

The 73-year-old “American Gigolo” actor has angered his rich, famous neighbors with his proposal for the 130-foot-tall mast on the 14 acres of land where the upscale Bedford Post Inn sits in Bedford, Westchester County, New York. .

Despite high-profile residents of the celebrity town saying they were “furious” that it would be an eyesore, the New York Post reported that the plan “appears headed for approval” after the Bedford City Council meeting on Monday. (19.12.22)

Richard co-owns the eight-room Bedford Post, which he opened 15 years ago with real estate developer Russell Hernandez, and which charges more than $1,000 a night for its best rooms.

The couple was asked by Bedford Town Supervisor Ellen Kalves in June if they would lease their land for a cell tower to fill gaps in cell coverage in the area.

Ellen admitted to the New York Post about the plan that “many members of the public have been pleading with the city council to find a less intrusive alternative,” but justified the request by adding, “Since the Post Inn property is commercial and the commercial property with city ​​code is considered ‘less intrusive’ than residential locations, I was looking… to see if they would consider that.”

The proposal was not fully approved at Monday’s meeting, but Ellen warned that even the wealth and power of local residents may not be enough to stop it from moving forward.

He added to the Post: “Just because people with money and power threaten legal action, that doesn’t mean they are held in higher esteem than anyone else.

“We have to make the right decision for the whole city. This is a matter of public safety and quality of life.”

Among the stars who live in Bedford and nearby towns are Martha Stewart, Ralph Lauren, Matt Damon, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

It is unclear where they stand in the cell tower proposal.
