America’s largest labor union, where President Biden spoke Friday, has given almost exclusively to Democrats, including the president, according to campaign finance data, showering the party with a lopsided chunk of its total policy contributions.
According to Open Secrets, the National Educators Association (NEA), which represents public school teachers and staff and works to educate America’s children, has matched more than 98% of its total political donations for the current 2022 midterm election cycle to Democratic Congressional candidates with less than 2% Republicans.
Amounts paid during the 2020 election reflect a similar advantage over Democratic congressional candidates, with nearly 95% of all NEA contributions going to the party and just 2.5% to Republicans.
Each of the amounts consisted of contributions from individuals associated with the NEA and associated Political Action Committee (PAC).

So far this cycle, Biden has received nearly $10,798 from the NEA, including contributions from individuals, the organization itself, and the associated PAC. In 2020 he received $200,522.
In both cycles, a majority of the totals came from people affiliated with the NEA rather than its affiliated PAC.
Other Democratic candidates in hotly contested races this year have also benefited from the NEA’s deep pockets:
Senator Raphael Warnock, D-Ga. – $19,520
Sen. Catherine Cortez-Masto, D-Nev. – $13,884
Senator Mark Kelly, D-Ariz. – $15,948
Sen. Maggie Hassan, DN.H. – $18,324
Senate candidate Cheri Beasley, DN.C. — $15,190
Senate candidate Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla. — $10,534
Senate nominee Tim Ryan, D-Ohio – $16,181
Each of these amounts includes contributions from individuals associated with the NEA and associated PAC.

The NEA has been criticized for its approach to education, including for allegedly promoting explicit sexual content for teens, as well as for passing a resolution earlier this year that would allocate thousands of dollars to conduct opposition research into organizations allegedly attacking gender identity and freedoms sexual orientation in public schools.
The organization has also supported the teaching of critical race theory in schools.
