Jesse Williams’ ex-wife has sparked a parenting debate after opening up about her frustration with long-distance parenting during their custody battle.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Aryn Drake-Lee, 40, shared with her followers the struggle of becoming parents together.
Jesse Williams’ ex-wife says his work trips are taking a toll on their children.
“Is it good for the health and well being of a 7 and 8 year old to be regularly taken out of school to fly cross country overnight with a red eye to be grounded for two days?” Drake-Lee wrote a selfie next to it.
“Is it reasonable that they return dazed and confused and then be expected to pick up at school for the rest of the week and survive? I do not think so! Neither the parents who are actually routinely parents,” she continued.
Drake-Lee, who didn’t explicitly name Williams in the post, concluded, “There’s a name for the condition of an adult who expects their children to pamper, nurture, and serve that adult’s desires at the children’s expense.”
She added two hashtags that included the phrases “receipt season” and “I’ve been silent for way too long.”
In the comments on her post, Drake-Lee’s followers reacted to her post.
“Fight for your children’s welfare,” one user wrote, while another added, “Not ok.”
While some sided with her, others pointed out that it doesn’t seem like such a big deal.
“I mean, doesn’t he have to work to pay your monthly payment? Honestly sounds like a very privileged thing,” one user wrote, referring to the $6,413 a month Williams gives to his ex-wife.
Drake-Lee and Williams, who married in 2012 before later divorcing in 2020, were embroiled in a nasty custody battle that was eventually settled in March 2022.
However, it seems the exes aren’t on the same page anymore, as Drake-Lee made her post after a TMZ report in which Williams asked for an update on her previous custody agreement.
Williams, who is currently preparing for the second run of the Broadway production Take Me Out in New York, filed a request for an emergency hearing earlier this month.
The former ‘Greys Anatomy’ actor asked that the four consecutive days he can spend with his children while working in New York include days during the months of October, as well as during the children’s Thanksgiving holiday and through January be extended.
Williams, who shares two children with his ex-wife, daughter Sadie, 8, and son Maceo, 7, claimed in the documents that Drake-Lee will not allow their children to return to New York for his second Broadway gig.

“I have asked Aryn to comply with the court’s previous order so that I can continue to spend quality time with our children while I am in New York. Aryn declined,” he said in the documents obtained by TMZ.
Williams previously went to court again in June 2022 to urge Drake-Lee not to interfere or block the time he is spending with their two children.
Williams’ request prompted Drake-Lee to respond, alleging that her ex-husband “bullied,” “molested her,” and “threw tantrums” over her custody agreement.
