Gov Committee Will Consider ‘Equity’ In New Diet, Health Guidelines – OutKick

Equality and inclusion are very popular these days. And now they enter the food pyramid.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have announced their 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committees.

The committee is made up of 20 nationally recognized scientists tasked with “studying the relationship between diet and health at all life stages,” according to an announcement released Thursday.

If you’re not familiar with the DGA, it meets every five years to tell Americans how to eat. Their recommendations are then adopted by policy makers, schools, prisons, hospitals and medical professionals.

This time, however, the DGA wants to make sure its nutritional advice is fair and inclusive.

“They will apply a health equity lens throughout their evidence review to ensure that their recommendations to the HHS and USDA consider factors such as socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, and culture,” the announcement writes.

That’s why we’re clear: Diversity, equality and inclusion are good things.

But the practice of making public health policy based on an idea of ​​social justice is something that should concern everyone.

It doesn’t matter if you’re rich, poor, black, white, Asian or purple – proper nutrition and exercise are universal. And fat doesn’t care about your feelings.

The DGA has a history of poor dietary recommendations.

The committee’s most famous idea was, of course, the 1992 Food Guide Pyramid. This handy chart taught kids during the ’90s and early 2000s to eat 6-11 servings of bread, pasta, and cereal a day. Fruits and vegetables? Well, 2-4 is fine.

With this type of recommendation, it’s not surprising that 41.9 percent of U.S. adults are obese.

But hey, maybe your diet has nothing to do with your weight!

As a member of the 2025 DGA committee, Dr. Just ask Fatima Cody Stanford. In a recent interview on “60 Minutes,” Stanford said that obesity is simply a genetic issue.

“If you were born to parents who were obese, you have a 50-85 percent chance of having the disease,” he said. “Even with optimal diet, exercise, sleep management and stress management.”

Here are the guys. Don’t eat your vegetables. don’t exercise Just blame mom and dad!

So it’s no surprise that the American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that you stuff your kids with weight loss pills.

To follow science? Follow the money.

Government and corporate intervention in healthcare is becoming increasingly troubling, and the DGA is no exception.

According to an article published in March 2022, 95 percent of previous committee members had conflicts of interest with junk food companies and Big Pharma. The article details how companies like Kellogg’s, Abbott, Kraft, and General Mills pay committee members to lie about what healthy eating consists of.

Do not eat eggs and fruit for breakfast. Just eat this delicious, sugary (brand) cereal instead! Do not diet to lose weight. Just take some pills! Do not exercise and take vitamins to strengthen your immune system. Just get the COVID shot!

Do you see a pattern here?

So these new committee members pledge to create dietary guidelines that respect all cultures and socioeconomic statuses. But apparently, they’re looking for a single population: themselves.
