David Little, a well-known photographer in Cordoba, has been creating memories with beautiful landscape and astral photos since moving there in 2005. His passion for photography started when he was 10 years old. Little lived all over the world – from Japan to Australia – before settling on the last frontier.
A day in a photographer’s life is different, but he always has his camera with him, he shared.
“A lot of my photos are random. I happen to be there anyway. I don’t go looking on purpose, I’m just there,” Little said.
The Cordova Times asked Little 10 questions to get to know the down-to-earth photographer a little better.
How did you get into photography?
By taking thousands of bad photos. I grew up over in Japan as a little kid and just took pictures. I had these little miniature cameras and had the opportunity to develop the film. I took photos because I was interested. But I got better and kept taking them. Just get out, look at things and be interested in things and take pictures. If you want to be good at anything, you have to invest X hours.
What is your favorite photography activity/attitude?
I would say Cordoba. I was in Yellowstone a few weeks ago (road trip with my daughter) and I was driving by and everyone stops to look at this one eagle. I think we (here in Cordova) have eagles, lots of eagles. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some cool, awesome stuff in Yellowstone. But for the most part I don’t feel inspired to take pictures anywhere else like I do in Cordova.”

Can you share something exciting that you experienced while taking photos in Cordova?
The Aurora! It’s still amazing. If we get a good aurora it really keeps me awake.
Where do you come from?
By the time I was 12, I had lived in Japan for 6 years. I’ve moved a lot. I don’t consider any place as home. When I visit family I either go to Australia or North Carolina.
What advice would you give to aspiring photographers?
Keep trying, keep working at it. Print out your best photos and get them off the screen. It will help you improve and it will transform your photography.
Tell us a joke or something that would make you laugh!
I was Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, check it out!
Is there a place in the world that you would like to photograph?
In Southern California, La Jolla (down near San Diego). I want to go down there and check it out. The California desert has some cool stuff too.
Who is your favorite photographer?
I like looking at many different people’s photographs. I like Ken Duncan from Australia who does a lot of panorama stuff.
What equipment do you use?
In general, a Nikon mirrorless camera and an older DSLR work well for aurora photography. Sometimes I would say whatever works.
Final words, is there anything you would like to tell us?
Any advice I could give about photography: It’s not about the equipment. Someone said the most important part of the photo was 8 inches behind the camera (I think that was Ansel Adams). If you don’t have the brain or eye for it, you can try anything you want, but you have to be, it’s personal. You have to have passion.
