Countdown Begins for KC 2022 Kids Convention Hosted by Stepping Stones Museum for Children

NORWALK, Conn., September 21, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — To empower youth to become active, engaged members of their communities, the award-winning Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk, Conn.is hosting its KC 2022 Kids Convention October 14th and 15. The event provides a unique platform for children aged 8+ to share their voice and choices on the issues that matter most to them.

In partnership with the Connecticut State Department of Education, the conference provides the museum with a global opportunity to give children the inspiration they need to make a positive difference in the world around them.

Presented by the Museum Healthy Children, Healthy Communities® initiative, KC 2022 offers children and young people an unprecedented community platform to express their thoughts and feelings about their place in the world and their vision for their future. The museum will be closed to the public on both days of the convention to support the transformative learning experiences designed specifically for children ages 8 and up.

Educators are invited to register their classes for any or all of the experiences taking place between 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m accommodate everyday school life. All registrants will receive a free link to the live streamed experiences along with an information pack to make virtual participation easy and rewarding.

Saturday October 15th is for the general public

museum members and Connecticut Families are welcome to sign up for the full-day experience Saturday October 15th, which was specially developed for children from 8 years of age. registration is $5 per person for members and $8 per person for non-members. All proceeds benefit the museum’s accessible Open Arms initiative, which allows children and families of all abilities and backgrounds to have access to the quality educational experiences offered by Stepping Stones. Packed with STEAM-infused programming offerings

Exciting learning experiences of KC 2022 include a live exchange with student members of Kenya Connect’s #TheVillageThatReads program, an inspiring presentation by Renata Bower, author of “Frieda B.” Children’s book series and a youth forum focused on social-emotional learning moderated by the director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence Craig Bailey, Ph.D. Students will also take part in an innovation workshop presented by the 16-year-old American inventor, author and Time Magazine’s first-ever Kid of the Year. Gitanjali Raoplus an art experience from an iwasakid.com comic series promoting diversity in science hosted by a local artist and writer Karen Romano Young.

Saturday’s experience includes a live performance workshop with Ugandan dancer students hosted by global arts exchange organization Creative Connections and dancers from the Conservatory of Dance in Wilton, Conn.; a personal presentation from the 2022 Connecticut child governor® Makhi Ettienne Modeste and his 5thth class cabinet; and a live performance by The Merry Rockers, a NYC-based reggae band. A special screening of the museum’s Mutt-i-grees is also planned® Pet Advocacy program, along with presentations from youth leaders from Save the Children’s SCAN program and interviews with STEM Challenge participants Connecticut-based STEM Challenge program by Sikorsky Aircraft. Sikorsky experts will also present their HeliVenture program, which gives children a behind-the-scenes look at the science behind helicopter flight.
