Boston beats all other East Coast cities in ‘Best Sports Cities’ WalletHub study

Boston ranked highest among all East Coast major cities in WalletHub’s “Best Sports Cities 2022” ranking and was named the nation’s second best sports city.

WalletHub uses a ranking system to give 392 cities across the country an overall score using more than 50 metrics, giving each city a “total score” to determine which one is the best.

Boston finished just .03 behind Los Angeles with a combined score of 50.88. Los Angeles’ score was 50.91, and third-place New York was 47.09, a full 3.79 points behind Boston.

WalletHub also ranked the nation’s cities by the five biggest sports: football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer.

  4. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  5. Dallas, Texas
  6. Miami, Florida
  7. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

  10. Atlanta, Georgia

For football, basketball, baseball, and hockey, Boston ranks among the top five sports cities. The only sport Boston didn’t have was football.
