Why the crimson tide can cover

Alabama is one of the best in the FBS on both sides of the ball, despite its struggles in the postseason. With Heisman winner Bryce Young leading the offense and star pass rusher Will Anderson setting the tone on defense, the Tide is fourth in the FBS in plus-22.8 points per game. They are 6-0 at home and 4-1 overall, and the home team is 5-0 ATS in their last five Iron Bowls. Young is averaging 40 points per game (sixth in FBS) and 472 yards per game (17th), and he has 2,644 passing yards, 24 TDs and four interceptions.

Receivers Ja’Cory Brooks and Jermaine Burton each have over 500 receiving yards and six TDs. Jahmir Gibbs and Jace McClellan have combined for 1,343 rushing yards and 11 TDs, while Auburn is allowing nearly 175 yards per game (93rd) on the ground. The Tide’s defense is allowing 4.4 yards per game (fourth in the FBS) and 108 yards rushing (14th). Auburn’s offensive strength is on the ground, as it ranks 31st against the ball, but 115th through the air, so Bama will force the Tigers to throw. Anderson, who has eight sacks, will be looking forward to it.

Why can the Tigers cover?

Williams, a star running back for the Tigers from 2001-2004, appears to have whitewashed the team, and they may play hard to get him hired full-time. They will also be pushing hard to secure a 10th title win in what has been a rapidly declining season. Alabama is solid against the run, but because that’s what Auburn does best, Tank Bigsby will have a lot of work to do. The teenager ranked 36th nationally with 907 rushing yards and 10 rushing yards. Quarterback Robbie Ashford will provide another look as he has 589 yards.

Ashford has been poor as a passer, but he has strong throwing options, with receivers Coy Moore, Ja’Warrius Johnson and Jarquez Hunter averaging 14.9 yards per catch. Last week, Bigsby rushed for 110 yards, Hunter rushed for 109 and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Moore. The Tigers defense has 12 tackles and 26 sacks. Defensive end Derick Hall has 6.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Auburn is 4-0 ATS in their last four November games and 4-3 ATS in SEC games this season.
